Huawei p10 plus is the bigger version of Huawei’s 2017 Huawei p10. These two phones have the same design, detail and everything, almost. The main difference is on the size of the two, the Huawei p10 comes with a 5.1 inch screen while the p10 plus comes with a 5.5 inch screen. Both devices are Huawei’s 2017 flagships and deliver just about the same everything. Let us check the Huawei p10 plus nonetheless.
Design and build
Huawei has always been good with their smartphone designs, at least in my opinion. Just like Huawei’s p10, the p10 plus’s focus is on design and esthetics, some changes which I can almost bet all users will appreciate. The p10 plus has quite an interesting design. On its back, Huawei ditched their metal material for what the company calls a hyper diamond cut back finish which is less slippery and scratch resistant. The p10 plus does feel compact in the hand with this back finish. On top right of the Huawei p10 plus (back part still) are two LEICA branded camera. Huawei cooperated with LEICA to design a these cameras, and for the Huawei p10 line this could be the main selling point for this phone. We’ll look at these cameras later. At the top middle back is a flash. The fingerprint sensor of the Huawei p10 plus has been moved and is now on the home button that is in the face of the phone. The back off the p10 plus also has Huawei logo. The phone stands at 153.5 x 74.2 x 7 mm and it weighs 165 grams. The Huawei p10 does look different, I personally fancy the new design by Huawei.
The p10 plus has a 5.1 inch IPS-NEO LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (540 ppi pixel density). It has a 71.2% screen-to-body ratio and the screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. This display is sharp, bright and has wide viewing angles. Its brightness makes it easily visible in direct sunlight and gives good color representation. The 540 ppi pixel density makes the p10 plus’s screen very attractive due to the sharpness it offers.
A set of dual secondary cameras is what the Huawei has to offer with the p10 plus. It looks like this will be the trend for Huawei’s high end devices since we have been seeing his feature much lately. The cameras are 20 MP + 12 MP, f/2.2 with OIS, Leica optics, phase detection and laser autofocus, dual-LED. The first is a 20 MP monochrome camera gets all the details of the image in focus while the other is a 12 MP color sensor fills in the color detail of the image in focus. The result, brilliant and detailed photos as you would expect. These cameras also pack features like beauty filter which smoothens the images and portrait mode which creates nice smooth colors.
The selfie camera is an 8 MP shooter which also does a great job witch picture quality. It gives the best still phots. I love how with both cameras of the Huawei p10 plus you can focus only on the image you are taking a picture of and blur every other thing. It’s a nice add on without needing a secondary application for this feature.
Video records 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, that’s up to 4K. A lot going on for the Huawei p10 plus’s photography. If you are buying the Huawei p10 plus for its camera, it surely is a right choice to make.
Performance and Memory
The Huawei p10 plus is a power house that packs Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 960, an Octa-core (4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and a Mali-G71 MP8, same as in the Huawei p10. These ensure a great performance in gaming, multitasking, browsing and so on. The phone runs smoothly and sets an excellent performance mark.
The Huawei p10 plus comes in two, a 64 GB with 4GB RAM (L09) and 128 GB internal memory that runs on 6 GB RAM (L29). Yes! You read right! 6GIGS or RAM! Don’t ever expect the Huawei p10 plus to lag for even a second. All its transitions take place in micro seconds.
The user interface is an over lay of Huawei’s new EMUI v5.1 on top of Android Nougat which it ships with.
The battery life of the Huawei p10 plus is remarkably excellent. A 375mAh battery with an endurance rating of 76 hours. This is more than enough power to last you a full day with ease. Good news is, the Huawei p10 plus also does support quick charging which Huawei calls, supercharging.
Connectivity and Network
The p10 plus supports Wi-Fi 802.11, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, an infrared port and uses a USB 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
Network: GSM, HSPA, LTE- 2G, 3G and 4G. Supports either single or Dual sim.
Headphone performance on the Huawei p10 is great. Speaker quality test at standard quality. It has the good 3mm jack that gives 24-bit/192kHz audio and has a dedicated noise cancelation mic.
